Al River is an interdisciplinary artist based in Tiothiá:ke (Montreal). Working across painting, textiles, and sculpture, he examines how spatiality intersects with grief, identity, and gender. His focus on materiality positions painting within the language of craft and ornamentation, drawing it closer to the domestic. Through processes of craftsmanship, slowness, and repetition, he approaches making as an act of care that carries memory and intimacy.
